Fox, who said his wife Tracy Pollan saved his life, changed his lifestyle when he saw his wife suffer because of his alcohol addiction.
The actor’s documentary about his life was released recently, and fans who have watched it sympathize with the actor and his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan got married in 1988. The couple have been happy and in love for over three decades.
Fox and Pollan have raised four children during their time together. Their kids are Sam, 33, Schuyler, 28, Aquinnah, 28, and Esmé. 21.
Fox said the three decades he has been married to his wife have been “the best 35 years of [his] life.” According to him, Pollan had been the root of their happy marriage, and he’d “be dead” without her.
The “Teen Wolf” star said his marriage to Pollan has been successful because they give each other space to make mistakes. He asked couples not to perceive slights, noting that their marriage is beautiful because it involved the two of them.
Before Fox met Pollan, he was struggling, having just moved to the US. But then the movie star became successful and was soon famous. Fox revealed that he met Pollan while filming “Family Ties” at the height of his career:
“There’s a scene in the film where I am kind of a bit of a jerk, which I’m happy they showed. Tracy kind of steered me in the right direction. And then we got married.”
Over the years, the couple has also gone through challenging times, but their love for each other has seen them through the darkest hours.
Fox recently celebrated Pollan’s birthday with an amazing post on Instagram. The actor shared a picture of his wife in a gorgeous black gown, captioned, “She showers the people she loves with love, She shows them the way that she feels.”
Fox, who said he now lives one day at a time, admitted that his condition was taking a great toll on him.
He also shared pictures of Pollan, himself, and their kids. In some, Fox and Pollan looked stunning as they enjoyed sweet, laid-back moments. Fox captioned the pictures:
“Happy happy birthday, @tracy.pollan, my forever Summer girl, my love, my best friend, and the most beautiful amazing mom to our four stupendous kids. Love, love , love you. 🌻🎂☀️ ❤️.”
Pollan responded to Fox’s post with affection, “Love this and love you!!!!😍😍😍.” Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, said his wife had kept the vow of being with him in “in sickness and in health” for more than three decades.
The “Back to the Future” star was diagnosed with Parkinson’s three years into his marriage, and he is glad his family never allowed his sickness to affect them on a daily basis. Nevertheless, accepting his illness took time.
Fox also revealed that after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he drank to escape reality. However, Pollan didn’t let him live in a sorry state. She would ask the actor, “Is this what you’re looking for? Do you want to be like this?”
Fox had been so terrified that he had left home to seek film roles in other parts of the world. At this time, he just didn’t want to face the reality at home.
Eventually, Fox took the bold step to seek help when he noticed Pollan was struggling to keep the family together as he sunk into alcoholism. The actor made up his mind and went back home to his wife, who had just welcomed their twin daughters.
When Fox and Pollan got back together, the actor said he became the person who was most in love in the marriage, and he still is.
