Kathleen Saville and Olive Woodward are best friends for life. Not in the usual, teenage way of pledging friendship to someone, but in the literal sense of the word.
You see, these two women, known for getting into mischief, have been sidekicks since they met aged 11 … way back in 1941. That’s right, Kathleen and Olive have been besties for a whopping 79 years, and are now 89.
As per reports, the two established an instant connection with one another when they first met during World War II. Amongst other things, they put it down to sharing a sense of humor … one that has lasted the test of time.
Incredibly, Kathleen and Olive are now living in the same nursing home, and their antics fill the place with life.
Kathleen first moved to the Berry Hill Park care home in Mansfield, England in 2018, and was followed by Olive a few short months later. The pair, both widows, have rooms on the same floor of the care home so that they’re not apart from one another.
Olive says that she went to see Kathleen every Saturday for lunch when the latter first moved into the care home, before thinking: “Why don’t I move in, too?”
So she did, enabling the pair to continue their adventures.
“We’re like giggling schoolgirls and we still put on our lippy and get dressed up,” Kathleen explained.
Care home manager Sally Tebbett said that Kathleen is a “proper flirt”, while Olivia is the more reserved of the two.
“The sparkle is still there. They are full of mischief,” she said.
I don’t know about you, but these two cheeky ladies certainly make me smile. What a fantastic bond they share!
